Starlets,Starlets, everywhere! Fashion shoot in Pleasant Hill

Sunday was amazing. We had scheduled the Starlet fashion shoot for 4pm. When I arrived at 3, the models were already arriving for hair and makeup. In case you don’t know, Starlet is a store in Pleasant Hill and Santa  Rosa that specializes in Prom dresses, wedding gowns and special event dresses. Every year, Starlet picks girls from the high schools in the area to be her Starlet Models. It’s quite an honor as she requires that the girls have good grades, are active in their schools and most importantly  they ” are nice to everyone “. A tall order. These girls come to the shoot as high schoolers and after hair and makeup and professional photography  they become super models for the day. We really have fun and the girls get to know each other and become friends.

We always have at least one “Studley Starlet”, a cute guy to show off the Tuxedos and to be a prop for the girls. This time, the “Studley Starlet” was the real boy friend of one of the Starlet models. They were so cute, I just had to get a shot of them together. I also loved that some of the mom’s came and hung out with us. All in all it was really fun.

I have been the Starlet photographer for years and over the years have made so many friends of the girls. They really are special and the memories are so fun! I’m always saying, “just one more shot, great now turn this way, great” and Allie, from Starlet is always saying ” We need to move on here, lets get going! ”

Anyway, here are some candid shots from Sunday’s shoot. The dresses and models are amazing , wait until you see! The girls will be featured in ads in the Contra Costa Times and other papers.

New book, same photo

The other day Debbie called me and asked permission to use one of her family portraits we had taken years ago for a project she was working on. I asked what she was doing and was amazed when she said she had written a book and wanted to use the image for the cover. Delighted and impressed,, I designed the cover for her using the image and voila!  I just emailed it to her. You can get the book on Amazon.com. I just ordered it and will start reading it tonight. Congratulations , Debbie.

Tara and Patrick’s Wedding at V. Sattui Winery

You probably remember Tara & Patrick when I blogged their engagement portraits at the beach last spring. Nine years have passed since Patrick fell in love with Tara in her black Guess swimsuit, and their wedding day was worth the wait. The love and excitement, fun and laughter, family and friends made their wedding one of the ones I’ll remember for a long time. The funniest moment was when we walked way down the street to take romantic pictures in the vineyard and about ten minutes into shooting we looked up and here come the caterers with hors d’oeuvres  and champagne . We laughed when Tara and Pat made a bee line for the sliders and chowed down in their wedding clothes. Lots of fun, enjoy!

Tara - CELESTE! What can I say? These are AMAZING! From the minute I met you I enjoyed working with you. From our day out at the beach (which was a blast despite the cold!) to the actual wedding day you proved yourself to be the most fun photographer ever and it shows through every moment you captured. It’s so exciting to be ON the blog!! You are too talented for words :0) Thank you for everything!

Emily & Ryan’s Silverado Wedding

I love the saying ” Got lemons? Make lemonade!”  One of the  wonderful things that has come because of the recession is a re-thinking of the traditional wedding. Suddenly, the smaller wedding is in vogue. Emily and Ryan were married in San Diego earlier in the week and celebrated with friends and family at the Silverado Country Club later in the week.  They hired me for three hours. We spent the first hour riding around the grounds of Silverado having fun just the three of us and Cami, driving. We took romantics and had the time to really play. The other two hours I spent capturing friends and fam at the reception, and a few events. What was the result of this ” out of the box” “I want a more expensive photographer for less time” thinking? Some of the best photographs of the season and a relaxed and fun time.

Bobby from Petaluma High School!

I photographed Bobby’s sister’s senior portraits two years ago, so when Bobby called I was super excited. I really like photographing the guys because invariably they aren’t hugely ( hugely? is that a word?) thrilled with the possibility of a photo shoot and without fail at the end , they all say ” that wasn’t so bad, that was fun”. Bobby showed up with great clothes in my favorite colors, black, gray, and brown, and off we went. Had a funt time and loved the images. Great job, Bobby, thanks for making my job easy.
