The Steps to A Beautiful Portrait
| FAQ

Hire a professional. Anyone can buy an expensive camera, even a professional one. Owning a camera does not makes someone an experienced , creative professional, just as owning a paint brush does not make someone an artist.

A professional is ONE with her camera ( and has several more ready to go in case they are needed) . In professional circles, we call wedding photography "Combat Photography"? Why? Because as professionals we are required to photograph, not one special photograph under controlled conditions, as in a portrait or fashion shoot, but several hundred perfect images that show emotion, fun, family and friend, love, and romance, All without being noticed or getting in the way!

See a body of work. Any one can take fifteen or twenty great photos in as many years. Be sure and see complete albums from several different weddings. Any photographer can take good pictures of beautiful people given the right conditions. A great photographer makes everyone beautiful, sees the beauty of every location and captures the love every time.

Remember that your photographer will be a big part of your wedding day. Here is a list of questions to ask yourself about your photographer.

  • Do you LIKE them?
  • Do you want him or her in your dressing room?
  • Are they experienced? Will they be there to help in a crisis?
  • Will they dress well and professionally? Do their assistants do likewise?
    (this answer should be Yes)
  • Will they be eating hors d?oeuvres and drinking at your reception?
( this answer should be NO)
  • Do they work quickly? A wedding is NOT about the photographer! We try to work quickly and quietly and keep the posed photographs to a minimum so that you can enjoy your wedding day.
  • Do they show an attention to detail? Photography is a technical and artistic profession. Have they been trained professionally or teach other photographers? At weddings especially, you need a photographer that can produce a good image no matter what the conditions are.
  • Are they well thought of in the professional photographic community?
  • Is this someone you trust and feel like you can work with?
With consultations, the wedding day , album designs and Christmas gifts you will want to pick someone you feel you can count on.
  • Do their clients return? The biggest complement I receive is when one of the couples whose wedding I have photographed call me to tell me they are having a baby and want me to take photographs. What an honor.
  • Do they use top of the line custom albums and materials? Will the products last? Are they guaranteed?
  • Do you have choices?
  • Do they have a contract that protects you and them? Do they have plans in place and backup systems in case of an emergency?

Now all that's left is to make sure that you hire the best you can .. Remember, after the wedding the photographs only increase in value. They are a gift to you, your family, friends and your children to come.
